West Lake Hills permit and impervious-cover rules
The City of West Lake Hills 2026 Drainage and Erosion Control Design Manual counts artificial turf in the backyard only, with a proper underdrain, as 50% impervious cover; a compacted base without it counts as 100%. Single-family lots of half an acre or more are capped at 25% impervious cover, and more than 20% requires water-quality treatment. Those limits make most yards a poor fit for turf, so we don't install there yet.
West Lake Hills covers about 3.6 square miles in Travis County (U.S. Census).
